Conversing with my classmates and short writing assignments helped me the best.
Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
I enjoyed the field trips the best. I liked traveling to those places because they were locations I would not have thought to go (or maybe not even been able to go) on my own. I learned a lot by being experiencing everything firsthand, and they were so much fun!
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
I want to preface this with saying I think everything was productive, I loved this program. I think the most productive aspects were speaking to the teachers and native Japanese speakers with the class, whether that was interviews or casual conversation. It was the best practice for me. If I had to choose a least productive, I might choose Kotoba Day. I was level 1, so I could not understand a lot of the program and I found some elements, like the voice acting clips, a little repetitive.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
Conversing with my classmates and short writing assignments helped me the best.
Any suggestions for improving class activities or materials?
Not really, I loved how the lessons were structured!
Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?
I was amazed that I had a private room. That was incredible and I was fully expecting to have a roommate.
Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?
Make all the mistakes you can, because an environment where everyone is willing to listen and help you is a special opportunity!
