Drill practice and the English support groups helped a lot.

Gavin from Summer Short 2023

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I loved travelling outside of Tokyo on the buses and going to the peach farm. It was a lot of fun getting to hang out with everyone and just have a good time.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

I feel like the most productive times were in class when we were reviewing topics and speaking out-loud. Meanwhile not knowing what the right answer to things we got wrong hurt how well we could do.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Drill practice and the English support groups helped a lot.

Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?

I loved that there was a ramen restaurant right below the dorm and a family-mart right next door.

What dorm did you live in or host family did you live with?

I liked in the Minami Kasai Dorm

Testimonials

If you want a challenge, then this program in definitely what you’re looking for. I came into the program with very basic knowledge of Japanese and am definitely excited about how much I have improved. Learning a language isn’t instant and it takes a while to sink in, but the longer you’re here you become more motivated to utilize what you learn and to continue to progress in your studies. And all of the instructors and office staff are some of the most friendly and approachable people I have ever met. They really make the whole experience quite enjoyable!
