If you want to make the most of your time at KCP, do more than the bare minimum for each class.

Spencer from Winter 2023

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

The quiz at class orientation and graduation were fun because everyone was involved. The Yokohama trip was nice because we got to see a few nice sights (China Town and the large Gundam by the sea).

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I think it was very productive to have one-on-one/group conversations with the teachers before/after class. To be able to use the Japanese we've learned with someone that can correct us/prevent us from making mistakes during conversation is very helpful. Something else that was helpful was English Support. The reviews with Kato Sensei tended to be very helpful, especially before grammar tests. However even though the material she reviews is important, if going to her class before a Kanji test, the time in class would be better spent reviewing Kanji to make sure you fully understand the material for the test.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

To be able to travel and see such amazing sights (like from the top of Odawara Castle). Sight seeing was an important part of signing up for the culture trips for me. A couple of the trips were based around some kind of museum, which isn't really something I'm interested in. However, I was able to see some cool sights.

Testimonials

Frankly, it seemed like the best. The other programs I looked at were either heavily geared towards Chinese and Korean students or prohibitively expensive. Plus, KCP has a long history and a LOT of alumni who openly praise the program online — and I hope to be among them!
