Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
I enjoyed the trips to kappabashi and the Edo-Tokyo museum. They were very informative about the culture and history of Tokyo.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
I enjoyed the writing and listening elective classes. They were much more intensive in their respective focuses than the main class was. I also enjoyed lessons focused on differentiating similar concepts. I think that the conversation worksheets were the least interesting, but that is because I am bad at creating conversations like that in general.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
I enjoyed when we had to describe kanji in words. It was something that I hadn't thought about before, but is very common in Japanese. I also liked the short conversations at the start of classes.
What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?
It was nice to get insight into the culture of Japan and Tokyo.
Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?
It is a good idea to prepare beforehand. I learned all of the jouyou kanji and a good amount of vocabulary and grammar before I went, and it helped a lot.
