Having 3 teachers is great!

Makaila from Fall 2017

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really liked the Odaiba trip because my class was great! I loved spending more time practicing talking to them outside of the curriculum, it was a really helpful way to practice conversational Japanese, and just hanging out with them was great!

Why did you select this program?

It just worked better for me than the programs my university offers as exchange schools. I could come with any level Japanese, I didn't have to pass an entrance exam to get in, and it is in the area of Japan I wanted to be in.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

I feel like one of the things I like most is that you get 3 teachers. That is 3 different native speakers with 3 different teaching styles for you to learn from. Like last term I had 3 great teachers, they were all amazing, but one of them was my favorite because he always made class fun! Just the energy he brought into class and his teaching style made learning super fun, and that is great! I love that!

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

I really enjoyed the Yamanashi trip! It was super fun while also being super informative. It is a memory I will treasure.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

It is a lot of work, be prepared for that. Overall I would definately recommend it to anyone looking to seriously study Japanese. It's a great school, the staff is always super helpful and fun, and they cover a lot in one term. It can be difficult at times if you're not understanding, but there's always someone you can ask for help, and overall I think this is a great way to learn.

If you want a challenge, then this program in definitely what you’re looking for. I came into the program with very basic knowledge of Japanese and am definitely excited about how much I have improved. Learning a language isn’t instant and it takes a while to sink in, but the longer you’re here you become more motivated to utilize what you learn and to continue to progress in your studies. And all of the instructors and office staff are some of the most friendly and approachable people I have ever met. They really make the whole experience quite enjoyable!
