The most interesting aspect was being able to meet new friends from both all over the world!

Derek from Summer Short 2017

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really enjoyed the trip to the Diet Building that I took, and I also found the Yamanashi trip very fulfilling as it allowed me to experience Japan outside the setting of a large city like Tokyo.

What were your goals in attending the KCP program?

To be immersed in a Japanese language environment and increase fluency, and also learn enough Japanese to skip the 2nd year of classes in college

Why did you select this program?

The reviews online were positive, the timing matched my school schedule well, and the academic load matched well with the courses I wanted to skip at school. In addition, the price was relatively affordable.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The most interesting aspect was being able to meet new friends from both all over the US as well as from China and Korea. The most productive aspect was the pace and content of the classes which were not overly intense and still enjoyable. I would have liked it better if the class started a bit later so as to avoid the worst of the morning rush hour, which I had to experience every morning.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I found the small group sessions to be very helpful

Any other comments or suggestions?

Keep up the great work! I loved the program.

Testimonials

I wanted to be in a major city in Japan and learn Japanese, and this program had good reviews online in addition to being affiliated with several universities that I knew of. There was also a decent amount of information available online from non-official sources, which gave me good information on living arrangements and general life as a student.
